Zimbabwe Music Awards, the country’s most coveted music ceremony is back and promises to be bring the glitz and glamour expected of such a national entertainment event.
This year’s edition of the ZIMAs will have a true Zimbabwean feel to it, according to the organisers.
Although not much has been happening for the past three or so years, organisers have assured the nation that the show will retain its glitz and glamour and will rival other music awards on the subcontinent, including the MTN South African Music Awards (SAMAs) which were recently held in Sun City, South Africa.
The awards are expected to take place later this year.
According to Nhamo Tutisani, who is part of the team working on ZIMAs to make them a success, there is a great deal of work going on behind the scenes.
“We recently attended the MTN South African Music Awards to try and see how best we can put together a show which can equal if not better what we saw in South Africa.
“Basically, the nature of the production that we want to put together needs a lot of resources hence the need to invite our South African counterparts to work with us in making the awards show a success,” Tutisani said.
However, together with his team, they all enjoyed what they saw at the SAMAs where Zahara bagged eight awards for her debut album “Loliwe”.
One of the many highlights is that the show will revive competition among musicians and give credence to outstanding performers from record stables, music shops and radio stations in Zimbabwe.
Secondly, the show will be professionally produced and performances well choreographed to international standards.
There are key partners who will ensure that everything goes according to plan as well as sponsors, making ZIMA a must-attend show.
