Zim man hangs himself in Cape Town

The Times (SA)

Fri, 15 Aug 2008 15:15:00 +0000

PEAK hour morning traffic in Cape Town came to a halt when stunned motorists came across a man hanging from a tree.

The man was hanging from a rope around his neck along the busy Liesbeek Parkway in the leafy suburb of Observatory.

Police spokesman Superintendant Billy Jones said police were alerted by passers-by at about 7am and upon investigation found the body of the 35-year-old Zimbabwean.

"The deceased was found fully clothed with a backpack containing personal documentation in his possession. No foul play is suspected.

The identity of the deceased has been established, but detectives are still in the process of locating his next of kin," said Jones.

Jones said the deceased is believed to have been staying in the area.

A post-mortem would be conducted to confirm the cause of death.

An inquest docket has been opened.

• Quite right, Agnes. The picture serves no purpose but to further anguish the relatives. Itayi, please take it down. The story itself is enough for the relatives to read online than to also be alerted that there is a picture of their loved one.
I would also hate to discover that this man had recently left Zimbabwe to seek a better life in SA. Imagine the relatives back home breathing a sigh of relief kuti aah zvavaenda kuSA pamwe vachatumira mari but only to me met with this fate. It would be a double blow.

• for anyone to take their life epitomises the depths of despair. for this man's family to look at this
