Tsvangirai arrives in Botswana on a regional tour

MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai

Tue, 19 Aug 2008 04:43:00 +0000

THE leader of the main faction of the Movement for Democratic Change is in Botswana on a trip that will take him around the Southern African region where he will try and engage more African leaders in finding a peaceful resolution to the Zimbabwe crisis.

Morgan Tsvangirai, who is reportedly travelling on emergency travel documents, arrived in Botswana yesterday where he held talks with President Ian Khama.

Tsvangirai’s party says their leader will spend the next ten days touring the Southern African region. This trip comes at a time when talks aimed at creating an all-inclusive government in Zimbabwe seem to have stalled despite statements from the opposition and government that they were still on track.

Tsvangirai’s spokesman says that the reason for the regional tour will be to engage more Southern African leaders in breaking the deadlock that has characterized the talks thus far and break the current impasse.

“The Zimbabwean issue is far from resolved, and so the continent as a whole has a responsibility to continue to engage with us in finding solutions… He is touring southern Africa this week,” Tsvangirai's spokesman George Sibotshiwe said.

“Part of it is actually a process of trying to unlock the deadlocks that have emerged in the negotiations.”

It is not clear why the MDC leader chose Botswana as his first destination, but President Khama is one of the fiercest critics of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.

Khama has refused to recognize President Mugabe re-election at the June 27 polls and has become increasingly critical of the Zimbabwean government. He boycotted the Southern African Development Community summit over the weekend because of President Mugabe attendance.

Both Zanu PF and the MDC have expressed optimism that a solution will be found through the ongoing talks despite the “sticking point” on the sharing of executive power between the President and the new proposed role of Prime Minister, which will be occupied by Tsvangirai if a deal is struck.

• This idiot is on tour coz his white masters are feeding him information and tactics thru countries like Botswana that is being ruled by a half black man and half white poofter! So hence after the sex with the poofter he may come back home and declare that the talks are dead. What welcome relief that would be as the ignoramus must never be given the chance to tread Munhumutapa buildings with his fat flat feet. White people do not call him two cheeks for nothing! Imh*ta yemunhu!

How many are on the tour with him? Who is funding the tour? Will the paparazzi be forewarned of his arrival at each destination so that he can do photocalls? What about the starving masses MT purports to be concerned about? Surely finding a resolution to our situation is far more important than going on tour - like some super rock star or some band of drug-crazed musicians?

Bring the boy home!
