REINHARD Fabisch, the former Zimbabwean coach and Benin’s coach at this year's Africa Cup of Nations died on Saturday after a long illness. The 57-year-old was suffering from cancer.
Fabisch played for German football club Borussia Dortmund from 1969-71 and had extensive coaching placements in African countries.
He coached Zimbabwe’s ‘Dream Team’ (1992-95) and Kenya (1987, 1997 and 2001-02).
In December 2007 Fabisch was employed as manager of the Benin national side, and left in May 2008 due to ill-health.
As manager of the Benin national football team he was embroiled in a controversy over match-fixing, after claiming he was asked to fix a result.
