YOUTHFUL musicians Dino Mudondo and Progress Chipfumo took fans for a ride when they quit a show prematurely at SpacemanGardens in GlenNorahTownship in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare last weekend.
The musicians were supposed to perform until daybreak but left the venue around 1.00 am with four hours remaining on the show schedule.
Chaos almost erupted at the venue as people demanded the return of the musicians on stage but the police intervened just in time to cool down flaring tempers.
Fans who spoke to this reporter could not hide their anger at the development as some threatened to disrupt the duo’s future shows within the suburb.
Show promoter Shepherd Sirewu of Audiotronix Promotions admitted that they had shortchanged fans but said the matter was beyond his control.
“Dino was coming from another show and some of his band members were reported to have been heading for another show since they are session musicians. He came very late but just played for an hour when he was supposed to do four hours.
“He did not explain anything to me but just disappeared from the venue. I called him later and he apologized, but that was a very unprofessional behaviour,” said Sirewu.
He added that Chipfumo had left the venue after realizing that his counterpart had chickened out.
“Chipfumo said he could not play the whole night alone but we have resolved to cover-up for the date,” he said.
Both musicians admitted that they had misbehaved but were concurrently quick to say they had settled a deal with the promoter to re-do the show.
