COMING from a successful World Premiere at HIFA 2008 where it was one of the best theatre shows. The Loupe received standing ovations from theatre buffs and even critics, and did an encore performance on the last day of HIFA by public demand. Loupe is set to thrill audiences again at Theatre in the Park from 10-25 July 2008.
Is he or isn’t he? How and why will it affect his brother’s legacy? Will his family accept it? Will his community condone or condemn it? Do you or don’t you tolerate it? Family bonds are put to test when Sizwe makes a shocking revelation about himself in “Loupe”, a production that made its world premiere at HIFA 2008 with a synergy of Zimbabwe’s vibrant energies in theatre. In the end, the play is a unique challenge to society’s of unique differences as it is fact that all cannot think, act, feel or react alike on all subjects.
Extreme entertainment, daring actions, flying emotions, accusations and counter accusations, denials and re affirmations is what audiences can expect in this no-holds-barred show which takes a multi-media approach to theatre by a new theatre director Patience Gamuchirai Tawengwa. The Loupe is a combination of experience (Tafadzwa Muzondo) and young blood (John Pfumojena) in its two man cast, a combination of different art forms in style and a combination of a new generation of theatre ideas in direction.
The director of the show, Patience Tawengwa, promises the audience entertainment at its best. “Cutting edge entertainment is what can be expected in this production which stretched me; I also realized that theatre directing is just as challenging as film work. It’s been an exciting experience where I sometimes had to step back to learn from my team and I should say the production owes a lot to the collaborative spirit and effort by the entire team” said Tawengwa.
Patience Tawengwa is a short film director-cum-theatre director whose short film “The Return” received an award for the best actress at ZIFF 2007. She is also an alumni of the prestigious Berlinale Talent Campus which is hosted annually in Berlin, Germany and is dubbed a “creative summit for up and coming filmmakers.” She was selected to attend the talent campus in February 2008.
Written by Mandisi Gobodi an acclaimed stage and screenplay writer, directed by Patience Tawengwa assisted by Lloyd Nyikadzino, Featuring Tafadzwa Muzondo and John Pfumojena, with Set design by Josh Changa, Audio-visuals by Charles Mutengwa, Live sound by Brezhnev Guveya. “Loupe” shows at Theatre in the Park from 10-25 July 2008 and tickets are available at $25billion for the lunch time slot at 1.00pm with a complementary sandwich and $20 billion for the evening slot at 5.50pm.
