THE body of Andre Romelle Young Jr was discovered on Saturday morning by his mother, who tried to rouse him. Dre's representatives confirmed Young's death, saying in a statement: "Dr Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr Please respect his family's grief and privacy at this time."
Mr Young was discovered in his bed on Saturday morning, the coroner's spokesperson said.
Although Mr Young's mother called paramedics, they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy on Mr Young's body was conducted on Monday, MTV News reported.
Police are awaiting a toxicology report on the cause of death.
According to Mr Young's mother, he spent the previous evening out with friends.
His mother told police she had heard him in his bedroom.
Police have said they do not suspect foul play.
Dr Dre is a Grammy Award-winning rapper, producer and record executive.
As the founder of Aftermath Entertianment and a former co-owner of Death Row Records, he has produced songs by artists like Eve, Mary J Blige and Snoop Dogg.
He has also overseen the careers of many rappers including Eminem and 50 Cent.
