'Well done Zanu PF and MDC'

Steve Chirandu–Opinion

IT IS almost inconceivable to imagine that there are still sections of the media and community that see it fit to promote divisions in our community at a time when crucial peace talks are being held between the Zanu PF and Movement for Democratic Change parties. One wonders what their motivation is.

It is a truism that it’s darkest before dawn, and in Zimbabwe we might have just reached that crucial stage, where we can all now see the light.

Talks are currently going on in South Africa and we are all eagerly anticipating the outcome because it might just resolve a decade-long crisis we have faced in our country.

Since the talks last year, the negotiating teams have made encouraging progress. The mediation team has been significantly expanded to ensure a well meaning outcome. They (the talks) have become more focused and substantive, in contrast to last year’s ones. So there’s hope for a better outcome this time around.

To build a harmonious Zimbabwe that features political mutual trust and coexistence, economic benefit, security and cultural enrichment, we need to build a consensus of all stakeholders. But that consensus can only be built if we act rationally, rather than irresponsibly during this interim period. All those Zimbabweans who do not see the utility of the talks should keep their scepticism at bay – and not disrupt the peace process.

Those media organisations and individuals who are fighting own battles and want to effect change in Zimbabwe should spare us their myopia. Zimbabweans have been inundated with a lot of activists who call themselves journalists and experts – many of whom fear irrelevance as the two main political parties engage in negotiations.

Some of us believe we are on the right track. We have not offended or called anyone names and hence have no fear of returning home if the two sides mend their differences. Those who bargained on a ‘Tsvangirai only’ or ‘Mugabe only’ victory - and called people names to a point where they cannot integrate fully into Zimbabwean society - are now running ‘scared’. These individuals should not try and derail a process that we all know is the only way forward, in pursuit of hidden agendas.

I would like to say to the MDCs and Zanu PF parties: “Well done in finally seeing the light.” We need a new Zimbabwe where all people can play a meaningful role in the development of their country.

• lets face the truth Mugabe and tsvangirai are one and the same thing first of all before the elections Morgan was running away like a heardless chicken gracing Mugabe to the west like a child and now he is engaged in talks with him to be honest what about us the ordinary people this is just like what happened during the gugurahundi ,killing people then after that Mugabe propose power sharing government.i think both Mugabe and Morgan should go and be teachers at zvimba secondary school .all these talks are not for people of zimbabwe there are for Morgan to shut up and he will be given money and a farm so that he and his family and all his relatives in the MDC should be well off.To be honest the zimbabwe government will never change for at least another decade cause all the people in the government are related even MDC the Morgarn Fanction its like a Kingdom so what about us the civilians we just gona be destituats thanks to Joshua Nkomo for selling the country to Mugabe.even now am thinking we should divide the country into two nations cause matebeleland ZANU-PF dont have a chance Mugabe strong hold are in his homeland Mashonaland i think that would be a good idea maybe we can have peace eZweni LIKAMTHWAKAZI

• if you cant say something nice in this world, then dont say anything at all - you will live to regret it because others always make up their own minds what is to be what.
back to the proverbial married couple again - only they know what went on behind closed doors and under the covers - no matter how bad each purported the other to be. and when they get back together you will be the nasty, interferring idiot who is no longer a friend.
we must all be seen to be working together on this one. Both parties need our support. try being supportikve for once - you may be pleasant surprised?

• While what you are saying Arthur is true, it is very easy to detect one-sidedness, which this writer is trying to discourage. There are also some papers which were also hoping to ensure that MDC remain in the sidelines and Zanu PF rules forever. Why are you also not talking about them? What you said is true, but also add this point if you want to appear neutral.

Subject: Light will never be defeated by darkness!

• Steve your observations are incisive and reflect common sense which doesnt seem to prevail among those who are bent on seeing the talks fail.

In life there is life to talk and there is also time to be quiet if what we say doesnt promote peace. I think the season we are in at the moment calls for people who keep quiet if they have nothing of vlaue to add to the ongoing talks.

The forces of darkness you are talking about are peddling lies and malicious gossip to topedo an honourable gesture by the politicians. They should know that light will always triumph over their dark thoughts. When light finally triumphs, their hypocrisy which is indelibly recorded on the internet will be clearly exposed.

This is not time to aggravate an already bleeding national wound but to do all we can to ensure that our country is healed even if this means loving the unlovable. This involves sacrifcing our own narrow egos.

It is unfortunate that some people and other media publications thought that the change in Zimbabwe would come through them because they are glory seekers. They purported to be the MDC official mouth piece but the MDC they purport to represent has caught them by surprise when it agreed to negotiate contrary to these people's malicios motives.

I would personally have wanted to be at the centre of change in Zimbabwe as an agent but if the change is brought by other people, then thank God, we all have to take it honourably and only hope that we all have a part to play in reconstructing the country.

Thanks

• Thanks Steve. I hope those promoting the Tongai Tione concept are listening intently because they are the people who are anti-talks and would like to woodwink Zimbabweans to believe that that's the opposition's position. Zimbabweans should ignore these divisive groups purporting to represent opposition ideology yet they are simply liars, liars and damn liars. If that's the official line in opposition circles then why are they in SA for the talks?
